Humans will destroy
humans. There is no need for any other external force or a mode of destruction.

One day a notification appeared on my phone from Tech Crunch about TC Sessions : Robotics. Intrigued, I watched a few videos and was amazed by the whole concept. Immediately, I opened my laptop, typed the word ‘robotics’ on google and hit
search. I was bombarded with an intimidating 27,30,00,000 results which led me
into spending weeks browsing the topic. Below is a brief of what I learnt from
it –
Have you watched the movie terminator? Have you ever thought
it could be based on something that would happen in the future? Well, if you
didn’t, then it is about time you did because the future is almost here. The
kind of development every country is coming up with regards to machinery is
tremendous. One of the main developments is involving the concept of robotics
in everyday life. It is a haven for tech geeks. As a student of business, I have
zero knowledge about machinery. But I can see that every company, every
industry and every sector is amazed by robots and hence, are keen to involve
the same in their activities. To give you an example, the bank that I work in;
Deutsche Bank AG, recently had a convention in Singapore with a couple of other
top investment banks where they discussed about the involvement and the uses of
robots in our business. It could decrease the number of employees and do more
than what humans can do with no complaint. They would never tire and can give
you double the result.
To give you a very short history lesson, it was in the late 1980’s
when the first robot came into existence. Pioneers from the MIT Leg Laboratory,
which is a place dedicated especially for developing robots, built the first
six legged robot. Back then, six and four legged robots caught people’s
attention. If they could walk or run, it was a sight to look at. But, if you
look at the advancement mankind has made towards this field, you will either be
scared or thrilled.
Looking at the modern times, there are companies like Boston
dynamics, Hanson Robotics and The Shadow Robot Company which are dedicated
especially towards the manufacture of robots. Boston Dynamics with its
headquarters in Massachusetts has come up with several different kinds of
robots which wasn’t even a possibility a decade ago. A few examples of some
brilliant robots built include Spotmini, an adorable robot that looks somewhat
like a dog, Da Vinci, a highly-sophisticated robot which is used for cardiac,
brain and neck surgeries and Asimov, a neighbourhood friendly robot that tends
to your needs. Below is the video of Spotmini.
A robot called Sofi which resembles a fish can dive
underwater and stay there for a period of forty minutes. Another eight legged
robot, which resembles the characteristics of a spider can walk sideways,
forwards and can even walk when flipped.
In the month of April 2018, Hanson Robotics showed the world
their human like robot, Sophia. She talks and acts like a human. She can argue,
make a joke, be sarcastic and can even flirt with you. This is unbelievable
advancement made in the last decade towards robotics and humans can only pray
that one day machines will not take over them.
Lastly, if you are looking for any information on anything tech related, I would personally recommend reading articles on Tech Crunch. It is a brilliant initiative, very informative portrayed in a way even a layman can understand. The link to the TC sessions on Robotics is given below -
